May 19 - A Walk on the York Harbor and Beach Railroad

Join Deane Rykerson for a  walk in the woods from Kittery Point center to Brave Boat Harbor along the old railroad bed. The group will look at what is left of the culverts, blasted cuts, grading, ties, trestles, and pilings after one hundred years.  Deane Rykerson AIA is principal of Rykerson Architecture. He has been involved in building, nature and design for over thirty years and specializes in historic preservation of the built environment.

Come join the Conservation Trail Crew and other volunteers to help the landowners maintain water quality, wildlife, and sustainable trails!  We will work on a project to protect forest and wetland habitat near Mount Agamenticus. We might build a bridge or reroute a trail around a wetland. Plan to dig in the dirt, cut branches and roots, move rocks and drive nails!

Join the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rachel Carson’s revolutionary book, Silent Spring. Bring the whole family for guided tours along the Rachel Carson Trail, nature crafts, exhibits from local organizations, and live animal demonstrations. Make your own bird feeders, take home a tree to plant, explore the tidal critters touch tank, create animal puppets, and more! Stick around for the York Center for Wildlife’s “Raptor and Reptiles” live show at 11am.

June 23, 2012 - Mount A's Nature Walk Series: Wetland Walk!

The Mount A region has the highest concentration of vernal pools in the state and is home to 3 threatened and endangered species. Hike to nearby vernal pools, ephemeral streams and wetlands to learn about seasonal life cycles, critical habitats, and the difference between facultative and obligate species.
